‘Scary Movie’ Reboot To Turn Up Frights And Laughs In 2026

The update came by way of an Instagram post, with Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans reuniting for the first time in over 15 years to pen an original script for the next entry in the satirical franchise. The brothers are also producing and writing the movie alongside Rick Alvarez.

Further details about the flick are being kept under wraps, including the premise, director, and cast. Keenen Ivory wrote and helmed the first two films, while his other two siblings wrote and starred in them. This reboot will serve as the sixth installment.

Released in 2000, Scary Movie was one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all time, scoring an opening haul of US$42 million at the U.S. box office. It also saw the biggest debut for a Black director at that time and spawned four sequels, starting with 2001’s Scary Movie 2.

The horror-comedy spoof was known for parodying genre classics like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project, with a synopsis that reads, “Cindy Campbell and her friends mistakenly end up killing a man. A year after the unfortunate incident, someone stalks them, leaves threatening messages and tries to murder them one by one.”

The Scary Movie reboot slashes into theatres on 12 June 2026.
