Samsung’s Galaxy Note Series Is Dead In Name, But Lives On In Spirit And Form

Ever since people learned about the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the company’s latest premium flagship smartphone model, questions about whether Samsung’s Note series will be back kept popping up. This is mostly due to the S22 Ultra sporting a Note-like form factor with a dedicated S Pen slot.

During Mobile World Congress 2022, Samsung’s president Roh Tae-Moon confirmed that the Note series will go through a name change.

“Galaxy Note will come out as Ultra,” he said, referring to the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The last Note device came out in 2020, the Galaxy Note 20, and people have noted that the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which features an integrated stylus, seems to be a Note device through and through with the exception of its name.

It seems like it was only a matter of time before the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series fused though. After all, when the first Note device was released in 2011, it was meant as a larger alternative to the smaller S series, but nowadays, a larger screen has become the norm for smartphones. As such, the Note devices were put into an awkward position of being similar to the S series with similar functionality while having a different name, with only the stylus being the differentiating factor.

The new frontier of smartphone design seems to be in the realm of foldable devices. While the retirement of the Galaxy Note name signals the end of an era of sorts, it still lives on in the brightest corner of the Galaxy S series.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is available on Amazon and Lazada.
