It’s easy to understand the appeal of mobile gaming, with the compact and slim smartphone build making it convenient to play on the go. Unlike some years ago, most current offerings can easily handle casual titles, but dedicated gaming phones combine this accessibility with added horsepower to deliver a better experience.
The ROG Phone 9 Pro and Redmagic 9S Pro are certainly no stranger to the craft, bringing a reliable track record to show for the efforts. Both brands have always been a strong presence in the scene, growing from strength to strength in their pursuit to become the best in the business. As usual, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets run the show here, albeit with some differences between the two.
Inheriting the stylish flair of its predecessor, the ROG Phone 9 Pro touts a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor – featuring custom-designed cores in the CPU, GPU, and NPU – and an Adreno 830 GPU. The chip is not to be confused with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version, an overclocked variant of the standard model that powers the Redmagic 9S Pro alongside an Adreno 750 GPU.
Display-wise, the former offers a 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2,480 x 1,116 pixels, while the Redmagic 9S Pro delivers FHD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and a 165Hz refresh rate (185Hz is supported, but only in Game Genie). It’s all pretty impressive, but herein lies the important question: which is the true gaming champion?
