Robert Downey Jr. Christens Disney Adventure In Singapore, As First Disney Cruise Launches In Asia

Adventure has a new godparent, and his name is Robert Downey Jr., and the mega star landed with a splash in Singapore to do what he does best – elevate the christening of the Disney Adventure, the eighth and largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, in its homeport of Singapore.

Having travelled around the world, and most recently arriving from Tokyo, Japan, on 3 March after an eight-day shakedown cruise, the Disney Adventure marks the first time the theme ship division has called Asia home. Though the launch of the ship was delayed from its planned December 2025 debut, the almost 1,000-strong invite-only crowd at the Walt Disney Theatre on board the Disney Adventure were all smiles and cheers when Tony Stark, aka Iron Man himself, appeared.

The soon-to-be Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, opening this December, was dressed for the ship’s christening ceremony in a mix of Iron Man red (shirt) and Doctor Doom metal grey (blazer and pants), and took to the stage to rouse the crowd, who were cheering and clapping in excitement.

“I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imaginary, and I can tell you, ‘Adventure’ is the perfect name for what they’ve created,” said Downey. “I mean, it’s absolutely massive. It’s gargantuan.”

“The arrival of the Disney Adventure in Singapore marks a significant milestone in our global expansion, introducing Disney cruising to Asia for the very first time. Honouring Disney Cruise Line’s legacy of unforgettable journeys, our newest ship brings together our signature storytelling and creativity in an exciting new destination,” said Joe Schott, president of Disney Signature Experiences.

Following the christening ceremony, guests, hosted media and partners were treated to a grand celebration dinner in the Navigator’s Club dining room and served an exclusive selection of cuisine from the ship, including the Wagyu Beef Tenderloin and Murgh Makani – Butter Chicken, as well as the Matcha Creme Brulee.

Disney Cruise Line is entering a bold new era with the launch of the Disney Adventure, part of Disney Experiences’ biggest expansion wave to date. The fleet is on track to grow to 13 ships by 2031, following recent debuts of the Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny, which held their christening ceremonies in New York City and Florida, respectively.

As Asia Pacific’s leading cruise hub, Singapore will serve as the homeport for the Disney Adventure for five years. With direct air links to more than 160 cities and world-class facilities at the expanded Marina Bay Cruise Centre, Singapore welcomed over two million cruise passengers in 2025.

Onboard, guests will discover seven themed areas, regionally inspired dining options that include bubble tea and Asian favourites, as well as nearly 17,000 square feet of retail space featuring exclusive outlets such as the World of Disney, National Geographic Store, and Duffy and Friends Shop. Entertainment highlights include the original musical Remember, the family show Duffy and the Friend Ship, and the Ironcycle Test Run, the longest rollercoaster at sea (over 250 metres).

The Disney Adventure promises to set a new benchmark for cruise experiences in Asia Pacific, blending Disney’s signature storytelling with regional flair and groundbreaking attractions.
