Over five months after the reveal of Resident Evil Requiem, fans have finally gotten their first proper look at the game’s combat, which harkens back to earlier titles’ slow and claustrophobic gameplay.
The gameplay clip was featured during a special Resident Evil program that aired on Japanese TV, which was shared by fans online on both social media and YouTube channels like RE Biohazard. In the brief 30-second clip, the game’s protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, can be seen being controlled in the third-person perspective, as she approaches a dimly lit staircase within a mansion, coming face to face with a shambling zombie. She fires a few shots, but misses, and is promptly grabbed by the undead foe, leading to a struggle. After fighting the zombie off, Grace tries to back away, only to encounter another foe who strikes from off-screen.
Fans of the earlier Resident Evil titles, especially Resident Evil 1 or the remakes of the second and third games, might find the scene quite familiar, as it features the same vibes of those past titles, with a dimly lit mansion to explore filled with tight corridors to navigate and dangerous undead threats around every corner. The stairs in the clip, for example, look and feel just like the stairs in front of the Darkroom safe zone in the Resident Evil 2 remake, down to the tight corridor leading up to it that players can easily find themselves trapped in if flanked on both sides.

The zombies feel much like those of the classic titles, too, as while recent entries like Resident Evil Village or the Resident Evil 4 remake opted for fast-moving beasts or more human-like foes, Resident Evil Requiem looks to be returning to the franchise roots of rotting, walking corpses, and fans are certainly all for it.
Still, the clip is just a mere glimpse of the larger title, so it remains to be seen if the mansion seen in the video will be the main setting of the game, or just a small portion, like Lady Dimitrescu’s castle in Resident Evil Village. Similarly, there’s still no news on whether fan-favourite hero Leon S. Kennedy will make an appearance, although one can certainly hope.

In any case, fans don’t have to wait too much longer for more info to be revealed, as Resident Evil Requiem shambles towards its release on 27 February 2026 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
