Being able to play games in your bedroom is such an underrated experience that many Steamdeck or portable PC owners can attest to. With the PlayStation Portal, we’re also yearning for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) days when life was simpler given its form factor.
The PlayStation Portal remote player brings the PlayStation 5 experience right to your hands. It incorporates the essential features of the DualSense wireless controller, such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The vivid 8-inch LCD (we were hoping OLED) screen offers 1080p resolution at 60fps, delivering the high-definition visual quality you expect from top-tier games.
Looking at PlayStation’s marketing material, it would seem that users will be tethered to only their home for the Portal to work. However, as long as you have a stable Wi-Fi connection, the PlayStation Portal should work anywhere in the world. It’s just that PlayStation recommends that the second screen experience on the home network is ideal for the best experience in the event you’d need to give up the living room TV.
Preorders for the PlayStation Portal start on 5 August 2024 and will cost S$295.90 / MYR 999 / IDR 3,599,000 / THB 7,790.
