The Dungeons & Dragons live-action series will no longer be moving forward at Paramount+, as Hasbro attempts a creative update and shops the series to other studios. The reset will involve a new creative team, and it’s unclear if previous creator Rawson Marshall Thurber and showrunner Drew Crevello will return.
First announced in 2023 just a few months before Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves premiered in cinemas. the eight-episode series was ordered at Paramount, but no further updates surfaced until recently.
Dungeons & Dragons has attempted to bring the tabletop role-playing game to the screen several times, with an animated series in the 80s, and a D&D movie in 2000 that failed to do well at the box office. The most recent film had paved the way for a live-action series, but it seems that we might have to wait a little longer.
The franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary with LEGO sets, a Converse collection, and new sourcebooks, but the news puts a small dent in its plans for a live-action show. Will its next iteration roll a natural 20 and escape development hell? It’s anyone’s guess.
