Oscars 2025 Recap: ‘Anora’ Sweeps With 5 Awards & Full Winners List

Sean Baker’s Anora took home the top honour at the 97th Academy Awards, winning Best Picture and solidifying its place as the night’s biggest winner. Earning a total of five awards, the film also saw Mikey Madison claim Best Actress, while Baker himself secured victories in Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

Adrien Brody’s work in The Brutalist earned him Best Actor, while Kieran Culkin’s standout performance in A Real Pain earned him his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Zoe Saldaña also won the Best Supporting Actress for her work in the controversial Emilia Pérez. International recognition played a major role in the evening’s highlights, with Flow securing Latvia’s first-ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature and I’m Still Here delivering Brazil its first win in the Best International Feature Film category. No Other Land was awarded Best Documentary Feature.

Screenwriter Peter Straughan was recognised for Best Adapted Screenplay with Conclave, while Paul Tazewell’s win for Wicked in Best Costume Design made history as the first Black man to receive that honour. Wicked also took home Best Production Design, reinforcing its impact in the technical categories. Other notable wins included The Brutalist for Best Cinematography and Best Original Score, Dune: Part Two for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, and Emilia Pérez securing Best Original Song for “El Mal.” The team behind The Substance walked away with Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the event was packed with musical performances, opening with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo singing from Wicked, while Doja Cat, Lisa of Blackpink, and Raye paid tribute to the music of James Bond films.
