Neill Blomkamp’s RoboCop Returns Will Feature The Original Suit!

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard any news on the RoboCop sequel, RoboCop Returns. Announced back in July 2018, Robocops Returns will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, with a script written by original RoboCop writer Ed Neumeier.

From the start, Blomkamp had seemed dedicated to having RoboCop Returns be as close to the original as possible, stating in a Twitter post that he would prefer Peter Weller, who played the original RoboCop back in 1987, to reprise his role for the sequel

Now, Blomkamp has given another small status update that’s sure to thrill RoboCop fans. According to the director, RoboCop Returns will feature the iconic original suit from Paul Verhoeven’s original classic

In response to a question posed to him on Twitter on whether his new RoboCop film will feature the “original suit”, Blomkamp replied with “1 million% original”. This approach is certainly different from the creators of the 2014 RoboCop remake starring Joel Kinnamon. In the 2014 film, Kinnamon was found sporting a much sleeker, and modern looking suit.

With regards to other updates on the film, Blomkamp stated that the script is currently being written and the process is going very well. According to Deadline, the script to RoboCop Returns will be based on a script written years prior by original RoboCop writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner.

A release date for the movie has yet to be announced but the movie does seem to be progressing smoothly. With any luck, we should be hearing more news regarding the sequel sometime soon.
