A clash of the titans is coming to the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and it involves an unlikely team-up — well, not so much for those who’ve watched Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Apple TV has released the trailer for the sophomore outing, which teases an epic showdown between Godzilla and Kong against a new, more monstrous threat: Titan X.
The events leading up to its appearance are established for viewers, with Anna Sawai’s Cate Randa saying, “I pressed the button, I let the genie out of the bottle.” Except it’s no wish-granting spirit, but a mythical, sea beast hell-bent on destroying everything in its path, prompting Kurt Russell’s Lee Shaw to ask, “What’s next?” Asking the real questions right there.
“Consequences,” comes the straightforward response from Joe Tippett’s Tim, and Shaw follows up with an actual solution: “To destroy a monster, it takes another monster. We need Kong. And Godzilla.”
There’s not much to go on about Titan X, but Tim describes it as a creature bigger than both kaiju, while the official press release calls it “a living cataclysm”. However, its ocean-dwelling nature and stature do share certain similarities with the Na Kika, a giant cephalopod Titan in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, first introduced in Godzilla: King of the Monsters — The Official Movie Novelization.
In any case, the mystery will be unveiled on 27 February 2026, when the pilot episode of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 drops. The sequel series sees Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise – Uncharted Territory) back in the director’s chair, alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita are executive producing on behalf of Godzilla creator Toho.
Joining Sawai, Russell, and Tippett in the returning cast are Kiersey Clemons as May Olowe-Hewitt, Ren Watabe as Kentaro Randa, Mari Yamamoto as Keiko Miura, Anders Holm as Bill Randa, Wyatt and Kurt Russell as Lee Shaw, and Elisa Lasowski as Michelle Duvall. Additional guest stars include Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper, and Camilo Jiménez Varón.
In addition, Legendary is also developing the sequel film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova as its next MonsterVerse project, slated for release in 2027. Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters hits Apple TV on 27 February and will consist of 10 episodes.
