Mickey And Donald Are Selling Satay And Roti Prata In Disney’s Newest Animated Short

Mickey and friends are serving up some local dishes in their latest animated short titled Master Hawker.

The short is part of a new six-part series of animated shorts by Disney Channel Southeast Asia titled Mickey Go Local and was made with the goal of localising their iconic characters.

Every month from now till January 2020 will see the release of a new animated short, featuring the famous characters from Disney’s House of Mouse exploring various aspects of Singapore and Malaysia, this includes food, culture, and architecture.

In Master Hawker, we see Goofy being caught in a food tug-of-war between Mickey Mouse’s satay and Donald Duck’s roti prata. The latter two pull out all the stops to entice Goofy, only to find out at the end that Goofy does not have enough to foot his bill. Oh, poor Goofy.

“We are committed to creating locally appealing stories that are relevant to our fans,” said Amit Malhotra, The Walt Disney Company’s regional lead for emerging markets. “The Mickey Go Local animated shorts are the first time our beloved characters are seen enjoying Southeast Asia’s charms, providing heartwarming moments for kids and families.”

As it turns out, Mickey Go Local is the first-ever series from the company that is produced entirely in Southeast Asia – the production was done by a studio in Manila, with the voice-over works done in Malaysia, while the pre-production and sound design was done in Singapore.

The Singapore-based animation company, Robot Playground Media, was enlisted to help conceptualise the series.

“The team at The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia came to us with the concept and from there we worked on the scripts, character designs, art style and storyboards,” said Bernard Toh, Creative Director of Robot Playground Media.

Master Hawker will be airing on the Disney Channel from August 7. Alternatively, you can now catch Master Hawker on Disney Channel Asia’s YouTube page.
