WayForward has released a new trailer for their upcoming side-scrolling beat-em-up game River City Girls which reverses the typical formula of a River City game by having the playable characters be the girlfriends of the franchise’s protagonist instead.
In their latest trailer, we are given a look at Misako, one of the two playable characters in the game. She is described by WayForward as “hot-blooded” just like her good friend Kyoko. Not only that, but she is also “tough, impulsive, and always ready for a fight.” Perfect for a brawler game. We can see both Misako and Kyoko beating up various mobs in the trailer, with almost anything capable of being used by them as a weapon – be it baseball bats, bikes, or benches.
River City Girls is developed by WayForward and overseen by Arc System Works (Dragon Ball FIghter Z). It is the latest game from the River City franchise and in it, we see that the franchise’s protagonists Kunio and Riki has been kidnapped and it is up to their girlfriends to save them.
While the playable characters here are different from previously released games in the series, fans should not expect the game to differ too much from the core mechanics of the series – basically beating up everything that moves.
River City Girls will arrive on September 5 on the PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One for US$30.
