As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Lipovsky and Stein’s newly-launched company, Wonderlab, has signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures, which covers all of the studio’s film labels. As part of the deal, the duo will direct Sony’s Columbia Pictures adaptation of Metal Gear Solid, with the film being produced by Avi Arad (Venom) and his son Ari Arad.

Ever since helming the highly successful Final Destination: Bloodlines, which marked the highest-grossing entry in the franchise, Lipovsky and Stein have certainly been keeping busy, as this new Metal Gear Solid project marks only the latest in a wave of high-profile films the duo have in the works, including a new Gremlins film for Warner Bros, and an animated Venom movie for Sony Pictures Animation.

As for Metal Gear Solid, the pair certainly has a tough task ahead of them, as this will mark the first time the popular gaming franchise has been adapted for the silver screen. Created by Kojima and published by Konami, the first game in the franchise, Metal Gear, was released for the MSX2 home computer in 1987, and would go on to spawn a beloved franchise comprising five mainline titles and multiple spin-offs, remasters and remakes. Its leading hero, Snake, has also become a video gaming icon over the years, so it remains to be seen who will take up the mantle of his on-screen counterpart.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (2025)

While the Metal Gear Solid film is still in its infancy, with no further plot details or casting information being revealed at this point, fans of the gaming franchise can relive the nostalgia of Snake’s earlier adventures with the recently released remake, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, or look forward to the remasters of Guns of the Patriots (2008) and Peace Walker (2010) with the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 2, which launches on 27 August 2026.
