Margot Robbie Producing ‘Monopoly’ Live-Action Movie

After Barbie’s success at the box office and Mattel’s plans for a cinematic universe based on their products, it’s inevitable that Hasbro joins the fray with a Monopoly live-action movie from Lionsgate, with Barbie star Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Productions helming the film.

The game is a multiplayer economics-themed board game, where players roll dice to move forward on the board and can buy and trade properties to develop them with houses and hotels. Players collect rent from their opponents and aim to drive them into bankruptcy, with one player taking the role of the bank.

Monopoly is an odd choice for an adaptation, as the game does not feature any characters other than Rich Uncle Pennybags, the game’s mascot, but it could go the Jumanji route and turn the focus on the game’s players instead.

LuckyChap has “a clear point of view” on the upcoming “Monopoly” movie, said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson, who also remarked that “they (LuckyChap) are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view.”

No plot or casting details have been revealed, and the Monopoly live-action movie is still in early development, but more information is likely to surface sooner than later.
