If you have wondered what it’ll be like if some of the best Marvel characters teamed up to read a kids novel, now you finally have an answer as Taika Waititi has pulled together a number of his celebrity friends to do a star-studded reading of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach.
Videos of the stars reading will be posted on the official Roald Dahl YouTube channel as part of the James and the Giant Peach with Taika & Friends series. Taika Waititi has partnered up with both the Roald Dahl team and Partners In Health to hold this celebrity reading, all in an effort to help the fight against COVID-19.
“Being an adult child myself and having read James and the Giant Peach to my girls multiple times, I’m excited to be able to partner with my friends, the Dahl team and Partners In Health and re-tell this story to help those most in need right now,” Waititi said in a press statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “This wacky, wonderful tale is about resilience in children, triumph over adversity, and dealing with a sense of isolation which couldn’t be more relevant today.”
Some of the celebrities you can expect to be taking part in the reading of James and the Giant Peach includes Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lupita Nyong’o, Tessa Thompson, and Cate Blanchett, amongst several other movie stars. A truly Marvel-ous reunion if we do say so ourselves.
The first episode of the series sees Waititi reading the first chapter alongside Chris and Liam Hemsworth, and Nick Kroll, with Meryl Streep and Cumberbatch taking the lead in the second episode.
