SEGA has dropped its combat overview trailer for IGG Studios’ upcoming pirate brawler adventure Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, showcasing an in-depth look at the game’s two fighting styles, Mad Dog and Sea Dog, ahead of its release in February 2025.
Check out the flashy three-minute deep dive here:
With combat being a core component of its gameplay experience, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii features two vastly different fighting styles that players can swap between to handle each situation. Using the classic Mad Dog style, protagonist Goro Majima, who suffers from amnesia, can utilise his muscle memory to deliver speedy blows with his fists, using precise dodges, blocks and charged attacks to gain an edge over his foes.
Goro’s Sea Dog style switches things up, donning him in pirate gear equipped with dual short cutlasses which he can throw at range like boomerangs, and coupled with his gap-closing chain hook and powerful flintlock pistol, makes this style excellent for engaging with enemies from afar.

Alongside the combat styles is the returning Heat Action system, where Goro can use makeshift weapons or environmental props to perform extravagant finishing moves, as well as devastating ultimate moves performed by charging up the Madness gauge, with unique attacks depending on fighting styles such as summoning the Mysterious Men doppelgangers while in Mad Dog style, or utilising fabled instruments to call forth different beasts in Sea Dog style, with the trailer showing examples like a Shark, Jellyfish, Ape and Parrot.
Finally, the trailer also teases the game’s new aerial combo system, allowing Goro to use his electric jump ability to lift enemies into the air, rendering them helpless against a follow-up combo. In terms of customisation, he can also equip up to ten rings, accessories that provide stat bonuses.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will set sail on 21 February 2025 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
