‘Life is Strange: Double Exposure’ Ultimate Edition Gets ‘Final Fantasy VII’ Outfits

It’s been some years since Max Caulfield, the original protagonist of Square Enix’s Life is Strange series, has led a game of her own. With her return set for Life is Strange: Double Exposure, it’s clear what she was up to during the window of time — embracing the Final Fantasy VII way of life.

The collision of both worlds will feature prominently in a crossover outfit pack DLC for the upcoming mainline adventure, due out on 29 October. It unlocks five new looks for Max, including a matching Moogle coat and beanie, a Cactuar sweater, as well as three shirts depicting a Bomb, Tonberry, and the ever trusty Chocobo.

These themed offerings are available at launch with each pre-order of the Ultimate Edition, alongside four other costumes, “exclusive cat content”, and advanced access to the first two chapters two weeks early. The digital version retails for US$79.99, while the Standard and Deluxe Edition go for US$49.99 and US$59.99 respectively.

First announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in June, Life is Strange: Double Exposure is set 10 years after the events of the first game. It follows Max, now a university student, as she attempts to save her best friend from getting murdered through time travel, only to open a portal to a parallel timeline.

“Max Caulfield, photographer-in-residence at the prestigious Caledon University, discovers her closest new friend Safi dead in the snow. Murdered,” reads its official synopsis. “To save her, Max tries to Rewind time – a power she’s not used in years… but instead Max opens the way to a parallel timeline where Safi is still alive, and still in danger! Max realises the killer will soon strike again – in both versions of reality. Only Max can Shift between the two parallel timelines to solve and prevent the same murder.”

Life is Strange: Double Exposure does seem to occupy a weird in-between space, considering the vastly different outcomes of the original title. However, developer Deck Nine has promised it will honour both endings, so longtime fans can only keep their fingers crossed.
