Lego is upping the game when it comes to the world of building bricks, as it will soon release the first wave of its new SMART Play sets, which come with interactive elements like lights and sounds. In line with the themes of technology, three Star Wars sets will launch with the new features on 1 March 2026.

The three upcoming sets comprise the Lego Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter (75421), Luke’s Red Five X-Wing (75423) and Throne Room Duel & A-Wing (75427), recreating some iconic moments in the sci-fi film franchise.

Headlining these new sets are the included Lego SMART Brick with charger, at least one Lego SMART Minifigure and the Lego SMART tag, which comes with all three sets. The SMART tags and minifigures contain embedded NFC-style identifiers, and when these are detected by the SMART brick, a 2 x 4 brick which houses multiple sensors and functionalities like an accelerometer or a speaker, it will change the lights and sounds being played accordingly. A tag associated with a starfighter, for example, might trigger engine noises, while a minifigure tag might unlock lightsaber sounds.

Paying homage to Luke Skywalker’s iconic starfighter, Luke’s Red Five X-Wing comes in 584 pieces and will include two SMART minifigures, Luke and Princess Leia, alongside three additional standard minifigures, R2-D2, a Rebel, and a Stormtrooper. The set will also include an Imperial turret, transporter and command centre, which can all unlock interactive features such as laser sounds, refuelling sounds or lights when using the included SMART brick, and five SMART tags, and will cost US$99.99.

Fans wanting their starfighter sets with a touch of the dark side can opt for Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter set, which features the iconic villain alongside his equally famous ship, with the 473-piece set also including a Rebel outpost, Imperial fueling station, one SMART minifigure (Darth Vader), one SMART tag, and an additional Rebel fleet trooper minifigure. The set will retail at US$69.99.

Finally, those who want a bit of both sides have the Throne Room Duel & A-Wing set, a 962-piece set recreating the iconic battle between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader at the end of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. This set comes with an A-Wing fighter, three SMART minifigures (Luke, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine), a Death Star turret, two Royal Guard minifigures, and five SMART tags, and will cost US$159.99.
The three new Lego SMART play sets will be available for pre-order starting from 9 January and will be released on 1 March 2026.
