Nintendo and Sony’s live-action Legend of Zelda movie has added four new faces to its cast, including Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), Dichen Lachman (Severance), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), and the late Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) in his final on-screen role.
As reported by Deadline, Latukefu will take on the role of Ganondorf, the evil Demon King and main antagonist of Nintendo’s popular video game franchise, while Lachman will play Impa, the bodyguard and advisor to Princess Zelda (Bo Bragason). The roles of Strahovski and Neill have yet to be announced, although Deadline’s sources state that the former would play a queen character.
While the plot of Legend of Zelda remains closely under wraps, the project is steadily rounding off its cast, which will be led by Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as game protagonist Link. Despite this, fans have theorised that it might adapt the events of the more recent games in the franchise, with recent images from the film’s set seemingly showing off a dog that looks very similar to Hylian Retrievers, the friendly pups seen in 2017’sThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The Legend of Zelda movie was first announced in November 2023, following the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is directing the project, with Avi Arad, whose credits include every live-action Spider-Man movie and the Spider-Verse animated features, serving as producer alongside Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.
The movie was initially planned for release in March 2027, before being pushed back to May, with the team taking “the extra time to make the film as good as it can be.” In May this year, its release date changed once more, this time being moved forward one week earlier to 30 April 2027.
