Marvel looks to have found the leader of its team of mutant superheroes, as Warfare star Kit Connor has been eyed to play Cyclops in the MCU’s (Marvel Cinematic Universe) upcoming X-Men reboot.
According to Deadline’s sources, director Jake Schreier and Marvel president Kevin Feige landed on Connor to portray Scott Summers, following a similar audition process that resulted in the casting of Ready or Not’s Samara Weaving as the mutant telepath Emma Frost.
As the leader of the X-Men, Cyclops has been a mainstay of the superhero franchise, known for his iconic “optic blasts”, beams of energy he can emit from his eyes, which contain inter-dimensional apertures that can release powerful energies from another dimension into his own. To control his power, Cyclops wears a special visor or sunglasses with ruby-quartz lenses, which allow him to safely see without inadvertently damaging his surroundings.
The character was previously portrayed on screen by two actors, the first being James Marsden in Fox’s original X-Men movie trilogy, then by Tye Sheridan in multiple movies starting from 2011’s X-Men: First Class. The former is also set to reprise his role in Marvel’s upcoming team-up movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
Best known for his role in the Netflix series Heartstopper, Connor would go on to star in Alex Garland’s A24 film Warfare, and is also set to appear in the studio’s upcoming Elden Ring video game adaptation. With his casting, the X-Men reboot is steadily taking shape, as Connor will now join Weaving’s Emma Frost and Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, who made her debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
