A remake or remaster of Bethesda Softworks’ beloved 2006 role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, has been expected for some time now, but fans have finally gotten their first proper look at the upcoming title via a series of leaked game screenshots taken from developer Virtuos Games’ website.
Virtuos, a Singapore-based studio that supports development for both original games and ports of older games to newer hardware, quickly took action to suppress the leaks, but not before eager fans could post the images on sites like Reddit and Imgur, showcasing not only the game’s key art and screenshots, but also the comparison between the new version versus Bethesda’s 2006 original.

These leaked images seem to corroborate previous reports that the game would be “fully remade” using Unreal Engine 5, with the screenshots showing off vastly improved textures, environmental details, shadows and reflections. The accuracy of the report also lends credence to its other claims, including its mention of six reworked gameplay systems: Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and HUD.
Furthermore, the game is also set to launch sometime this month, with Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb stating on his Game Mess Mornings stream that he was told by sources that the game would launch next week. “Last week on the show we were talking about it like ‘oh yeah, it should shadow drop at any moment’.” he explained, “I’ll give people a week now – the week of April 21. Basically, the last week of this month – next week, essentially.” These claims were further supported by other sites like Eurogamer and VGC, all reporting the game’s release this month.

These leaked screenshots serve as the most substantial confirmation of a remake or remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion since word of the game first surfaced back in 2020 via an internal Microsoft document referencing its existence. For now, only time will tell if the images are legit or some sort of complex hoax. In any case, if the rumours of its imminent shadow drop are accurate, fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
