Kim Bodnia Cast As Vesemir For Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 Ahead Of Mark Hamill

Talk of The Witcher Season 2 has already been sparked long before the super-popular first season even finished airing. Though we already have quite the extensive cast list, the biggest question lingering among fans’ heads was: who will play as Vesemir?

As it turns out, we now can put a face to the veteran witcher, with acting veteran Kim Bodnia given the nod to take up the silver sword as mentor to Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia (via Netflix on Twitter).

The Dane’s casting will no doubt be a blow to fans who were looking forward to Mark Hamill being cast as Vesemir. As many would know, the Star Wars and Batman: The Animated Series star explicitly expressed interest in playing the role, with even series showrunner Lauren Hissrich responding in kind, albeit cryptically.

While many no doubt will be gutted to hear that Hamill won’t be playing as Vesemir, there is plenty to look forward to in Bodnia’s performances. The Killing Eve and The Bridge star showed a ton of finesse in his roles in the aforementioned TV series, with the former show, in particular, showcasing what he can do as a father figure perfectly. Something Vesemir was beloved for in the books and video games.

Also, since we now can put a face to Vesemir, it still remains to be seen whether Bodnia will also be lending his voice in the upcoming The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf animated spinoff movie, given his character will take centre stage there.

Kim Bodnia is set to join the likes of Kristofer Hivju, Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Paul Bullion and Aisha Fabienne Ross in an extended list of new characters heading into Season 2. Production is still yet to begin, with the release for The Witcher Season 2 slated to be sometime in 2021.
