Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has found the voice of antagonist Shadow, and it’s none other than John Wick star Keanu Reeves. Reeves joins the animated film’s stacked cast, which includes Jim Carrey (The Truman Show) as Doctor Eggman, Idris Elba (The Dark Tower) as Knuckles, and Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) as Sonic.
Hayden Christensen (Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith) was previously rumoured to voice Shadow, but it seems that Reeves will be stepping into the broody hedgehog’s shoes instead. More footage of the film was revealed at CinemaCon, teasing a climactic battle with Sonic and his crew against Shadow, as well as the return of Doctor Eggman.
Producer Toby Ascher has big plans in store for the Sonic film series, which include a cinematic universe with the films feeling like “Avengers-level events.” And it looks like Ascher is going to deliver, with Reeves now voicing Shadow.
Interestingly enough, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will share an American release date with Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, but passionate Sonic fans have rallied their support behind the hedgehogs, rather than the lions.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will hit theatres on 20 December 2024.
