Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice reboot now has an official title, Miami Vice ’85, as the movie has found its two leading heroes in Michael B. Jordan (Sinners) and Austin Butler (Elvis).

As reported by Variety, production on the reboot is set for later this year, with the movie also being filmed for IMAX. With Jordan and Butler now locked in to portray Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett, respectively, the film is steadily making headway as it approaches its scheduled release date of 6 August 2027.
According to its official logline, Miami Vice ’85 “explores the glamour and corruption of mid-80s Miami” and is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.” The film is directed by Kosinski, best known for blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick and F1 the Movie, with its script penned by Dan Gilroy and Eric Singer.
The new leading duo will now take on the iconic role first introduced in the 1984 NBC TV series Miami Vice, which saw New York City cop Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) journey to Miami to find his brother’s murderer, crossing paths and teaming up with a local undercover detective, Sonny (Don Johnson), eventually becoming partners and best friends. The duo would then go on to be portrayed by Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in the 2006 Michael Mann film reboot of the same name.

Jordan and Butler will now continue the legacy when Miami Vice ’85 hits theatres on 6 August 2027.
