At the Los Angeles premiere of Peacemaker Season 2, Superman director and DC Studios co-chair James Gunn gave fans a first look at what comes next in what he refers to as the “Superman Saga”, offering insight into the future of the DC Universe (DCU) under his direction.

Whether this corner of the DCU will officially adopt the “Superman Saga” name is not yet clear, but Gunn confirmed that he has already completed a treatment for the next project and hopes production will begin soon. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet of the Peacemaker premiere, Gunn said, “I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the Superman Saga. The treatment’s done, and it’s a very worked-out treatment. I’m working on that, and I’m hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”
The movie, still largely under wraps, has been widely rumoured to focus on the Man of Steel (David Corenswet, Pearl) teaming up with Supergirl (Milly Alcock, House of the Dragon) and Krypto, potentially facing off against Brainiac or The Authority.

Gunn emphasised the importance of the project in the broader DC landscape:
“It’s a big part, definitely Superman leads directly into Peacemaker [Season 2]; it should be noted that this is for adults, not for children, but Superman leads into this show and then we have the setting up of all of the rest of the DCU in this season of Peacemaker, it’s incredibly important. Lots of guest stars coming up, lots of characters that are showing up that we’ve already met in Superman. I don’t think there’s anything that I’ve ever done that I love more than this season of Peacemaker, so I’m so excited for people to see it.”
The lynchpin of the DCU currently rests on the well-received and commercially successful Superman film, which stars Corenswet as Clark Kent/the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion (The Rookie) as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi (StartUp) as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho. Pruitt Taylor Vince (Lady in the Lake) and Neva Howell (Greedy People) appear as Ma and Pa Kent, with Alcock’s Supergirl making an early debut in a cameo ahead of her own Supergirl movie taking flight in 2026.

Reflecting on the original production, Gunn posted last year, “God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honour.”
With his treatment complete and production on the horizon, James Gunn’s ‘Superman Saga’ is shaping up to be a soaring new chapter in the DCU, one that promises epic action, heartfelt storytelling, and heroes whose beliefs in the goodness of humanity remain unwavering.
