The Ocean’s franchise’s leading man, Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney), is bringing the crew back together for the upcoming sequel, Ocean’s 14, although the years might have taken a toll on the returning gang.

Speaking to Variety, Clooney teased that while the sequel will see the return of familiar faces like Brad Pitt’s Rusty Ryan, Matt Damon’s Linus Caldwell, Don Cheadle’s Basher Tarr and Julia Roberts’ Tess Ocean, the 24 years between the original 2001 film and now means that this time, the crew will be older but wiser.
“There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me,” the 64-year-old actor explained. “They’ve lost a step, and they need to find a way to work around their limitations.”
Fans of the franchise will know that each member of the crew had a specific speciality, with Ocean and Rusty in charge of planning, Linus being a gifted pickpocket, and Basher a demolitions expert, so it will be interesting to see how age will affect each of their individual skillsets.

The long-gestating follow-up to 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen was given a major update by Clooney during a recent interview with E! News at the New York Film Festival red carpet, where he explained that the team had just gotten the budget approved at Warner Bros. and were in the process of scheduling, with The Fall Guy director David Leitch in talks to take over from original director Steven Soderbergh to helm the latest movie.
Soderbergh directed the original Ocean’s trilogy, beginning with Ocean’s Eleven in 2001, which was a remake of the 1960 film Rat Pack. The film would go on to receive two sequels, 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve and 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen, alongside a female-led 2018 spinoff, Ocean’s 8. An upcoming prequel is also in the works, which is set to star Bradley Cooper alongside Margot Robbie, and was pitched as an original tale set in 1960s Europe.
