Invincible’s Omni-Man Gets Bone-Crunching Fatalities In New ‘Mortal Kombat 1’ Trailer

A new Kombatant will soon enter the ring in Mortal Kombat 1, and it’s none other than the ever-so-powerful Omni-Man from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible. The sinister superman was previously announced to be the game’s first post-launch character, but fans now have an idea of what to expect from his appearance.

A new trailer shown at New York Comic Con 2023 shows him in action, as he dispatches Scorpion and Liu King with brutal efficiency — and in ways that will be familiar to the Invincible crowd. According to Kirkman and Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon, every moment of “Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1 is inspired by a piece of the show,” and the influence carries over to his bone-crunching fatalities.

Here’s a scene comparison for reference:

Actor J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1. The character is set to arrive in November 2023 alongside Kameo fighter Tremor, the earth-elemental ninja who made his franchise debut in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, and was last playable in Mortal Kombat X. Other playable roster additions include Quan Chi, Peacemaker, Ermac, Takeda Takahashi, and Homelander, with Ferra, Johnny Cage, Chameleon, Mavado, and more Kameo fighters joining in on the gory action.

The Kombat Pack DLC costs US$39.99 and is included as part of the Premium Edition of Mortal Kombat 1, which costs US$109.99. Meanwhile, Omni-Man also made an appearance in the Season 2 trailer for Invincible, focusing on Mark Greyson’s fear of becoming like his dad (Omni-Man, for the uninitiated).

The synopsis for the show reads:

“Based on the groundbreaking comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, the story revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season One, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.”
