‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3 Trailer Brings War To The Targaryens

The first trailer for season three of HBO’s fantasy epic House of the Dragon has arrived, teasing more bloody family feuds and fiery dragon action ahead of its premiere in June 2026.

The trailer begins by showing Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) sitting on the Iron Throne after his brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) was disfigured in Season Two and his mother, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), left King’s Landing. Meanwhile, it’s revealed that Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) has found new dragons to add to her army, spelling doom for what’s to be a brutal civil war within House Targaryen.

Perhaps the most exciting tease came in the form of the much-anticipated Battle of the Gullet, a large-scale battle initially meant to be featured in Season Two, but was shifted to Season Three when the former’s episode count was reduced from ten to eight. Snippets from the battle are brief, but it does show an epic sequence where Rhaenyra’s son Jace (Harry Collett) rides his dragon Vermax into battle against House Velaryon’s navy.

Other returning Season Three cast members include Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen, and Matthew Needham as Larys Strong. New faces include James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Lord Roderick Dustin and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, House of the Dragon Season Three is helmed by showrunner Ryan Condal, with Martin serving as co-creator and executive producer. Other directors for the season include Clare Kilner, Nina Lopez-Corrado, Andrij Parekh, and Loni Peristere.

The trailer also comes as HBO‘s other Game of Thrones-based prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, approaches its season finale. Although built on a smaller budget compared to House of the Dragon, the show had received notable praise from fans and critics alike for offering a more grounded and personal narrative, with the two shows marking the first time multiple Game of Thrones projects are being aired in the same year.

House of the Dragon Season Three will fly into battle sometime in June 2026.
