Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the gang are returning in Pixar’s Toy Story 5, with the sequel’s first trailer marking the arrival of their greatest foe yet – technology.
Following the events of 2019’s Toy Story 4, the trailer sees Woody reuniting with the gang after leaving with Bo Peep to be a part of the “lost toys” at the end of the previous movie. Together, they face off against a new foe, a Lilypad smart tablet threatening to take over the lives of Bonnie and other kids, and making traditional toys obsolete in the process.
The sequel will see a returning voice cast, including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie, John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head, Tony Hale as Forky, and Annie Potts as Bo. Newcomers to the franchise include Greta Lee as the main antagonist Lilypad, Scarlett Spears as Bonnie, Craig Robinson as Atlas, Shelby Rabara as Snappy, and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase.
Toy Story 5 will be helmed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, who serves as director and screenwriter. Stanton explained that the film is an existential reckoning for toys facing obsolescence instead of a simple good-versus-evil tale, and that its goal is to explore how technology has reshaped childhood and what this could mean for future generations.

“Honestly, it’s not even really about a battle so much as the realisation of an existential problem: that nobody’s really playing with toys anymore,” Stanton explained in a previous interview with Empire magazine. “Technology has changed everybody’s lives, but we’re asking what that means for us — and to our kids. We can’t just get away with making tech the villain.”
Toy Story 5 is set to hit theatres on 19 June 2026.
