Here’s How To Port Over Your WhatsApp Conversations To Telegram, Without Losing Anything

One of the biggest barriers facing everyone looking to move on from WhatsApp to Telegram, is the prospect of losing their chats.

Especially if you’re moving from iOS to Android or vice versa, there never have been ideal or native solutions available.

However, with Telegram’s latest 7.4.0 update on 28 January 2021, full chat migration from WhatsApp to Telegram is a reality with a few caveats.

Here’s how to move your chats from WhatsApp to Telegram:

Make sure to have Telegram updated to 7.4.0.

On iOS –

  • Make sure you already have a new chat open for your existing chat from WhatsApp on Telegram
  • Open up WhatsApp
  • Open the Contact Info or Group Info page
  • Scroll Down
  • Hit “Export Chat”
  • Once the export is done, send the chat directly to Telegram via the Share menu

On Android –

  • Make sure you already have a new chat open for your existing chat from WhatsApp on Telegram
  • Open up a WhatsApp Chat
  • Tap the “â‹®” Menu, select More, select Export Chat
  • Hit “Export Chat”
  • Once the export is done, send the chat directly to Telegram via the Share menu

We’ve given the feature a shot and it really does work!

However, there’s a small kink depending on how you look at it.

In order to get all the chats into Telegram, previous chats from WhatApp will be added below existing chats. So if you had YEARS of chats to move over, be prepared to scroll a fair between between existing chats, the amount of chats you’ve imported before arriving at present day chats.

This is how an imported chat looks like with timestamps.

Now that the barriers are much easier to overcome, make sure you inform yourself who are the folks behind each chat client.

It least now you’d have all the digital receipts needed to settle any dispute regardless of platform.
