HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ Season 3 Recasting Danny Ramirez’s Manny

HBO will be recasting the role of Manny, initially played by Danny Ramirez (Captain America: Brave New World), for the third season of its game-to-series adaptation The Last of Us.

As reported by Variety, scheduling conflicts were cited as the reason behind the switch, although no news on who will be his replacement was announced yet. Ramirez, known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Joaquin Torres, aka the new Falcon, first joined the show in Season Two, where he played Manny, a former member of the Fireflies who joins the WLF and teams up with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) to seek revenge on Joel (Pedro Pascal) for the massacre at the Firefly hospital in Season One.

The Last of Us, which is based on the Naughty Dog video game series of the same name, was created by game studio head Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, although the former exited the role ahead of Season Three to focus on other projects.

While no specific plot details of The Last of Us Season Three have been announced, the third chapter is set to continue where the second left off, changing perspective to focus on Abby, much like how it was in the 2020 gaming sequel The Last of Us Part II.

During a previous interview with Deadline, Mazin teased that Season Three will attempt to answer many lingering questions posed by its predecessor in order to tie everything together. “What is going on? How did that war start? Why? How did the Seraphites start? Who is the prophet? What happened to her? What does Isaac want? What’s happening at the end of Episode 7? What is this explosion? What is all of it? And all of it will become clear,” he explained.

The Last of Us Season Three will kick off Abby’s journey by reliving the harrowing final days of Season Two from her perspective, and will see returning cast members such as Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Isabela Merced as Dina, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Young Mazino as Jesse.
