HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Gathers New Generation Of Weasley Children

The Burrow will soon welcome a new generation of the Weasley siblings. As shooting on HBO’s Harry Potter series kicks into high gear, four out of the seven ginger-haired siblings have been revealed, joining the previously announced Alastair Stout as Ron and Katherine Parkinson (Doc Martin) as their mother, Molly.

Playing the duo of Fred and George Weasley are twins Tristan and Gabriel Harland, respectively, with Ruari Spooner and Gracie Cochrane starring as Percy and Ginny Weasley. The casting update came by way of an Instagram post, showing the mischief makers huddling together and highlighting the absence of second-eldest son Charlie, who is “in Romania at the moment but will be joining us soon enough…”

The caption is a nod to the character’s life in the original novels by J.K. Rowling, where he moved to the country after graduating from Hogwarts to study dragons. Bill, the first Weasley child portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson in the original films, is also missing, and it remains to be seen who will fill his shoes here.

As for Stout, he will be part of the main trio with Dominic McLaughlin’s Harry Potter and Arabella Stanton’s Hermione Granger. Other notable cast members include John Lithgow (Conclave) as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds) as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (Gangs of London) as Severus SnapeNick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as Rubeus Hagrid, Johnny Flynn (Stardust) as Lucius Malfoy, Luke Thallon (The Favourite) as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse (Alice in Wonderland) as Argus Filch, and more.

Francesca Gardiner serves as showrunner and executive producer on the project, while executive producer Mark Mylod is set to direct multiple episodes. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films are all executive producing, with HBO planning to adapt each of the seven novels into a season.
