HBO’s Game of Thrones Prequel Casts Hot Fuzz Actor Paddy Considine As King Viserys Targaryen

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, has found its very first cast member in English actor Paddy Considine.

The actor, who is known for his role is titles like Hot Fuzz, The Outsiders, and Peaky Blinders will be starring as King Viserys Targaryen. New character description (via EW) for the role has also been announced, giving more hints as to what fans of the show can expect to see.

King Viserys Targaryen is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.

Fans of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series will remember that King Viserys ruled for over 100 years. Though his children Rhaenyra and Aegon II will ultimately start a civil war for his throne known as the Dance of Dragons.

House of the Dragon is set a few hundred years prior to the events of Game of Thrones and will centre around House Targaryen. It is expected to premiere sometime in 2022
