‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Is “Ready To Go” Once Strikes End, Says Showrunner

The Last of Us season two is ready to go, but only when the ongoing Hollywood Strikes come to an end.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner and creator Niel Druckmann gives an exciting update for the anticipated second season.

“We’ve outlined all of season two and we’re ready to go as soon as the strike ends,” said Druckmann.

“We were able to map out all of season two,” series co-creator Craig Mazin also told Entertainment Weekly in a separate interview in August. “And I also wrote and submitted the script for the first episode and sent it in [to HBO] around 10:30 or 10:40 pm right before the midnight the [WGA] strike began.”

Mazin added, “I think it’s becoming essentially a near certainty that we won’t be able to start [filming] when we were hoping to start, which is upsetting. We are all raring to go. This is what we are born to do. This is how we not only choose to live our lives, but I believe [how we] are compelled to live our lives. Otherwise, why the hell would we do this insane job? I can assure you it’s not for money.”

Season two was halted in May this year. At that time, it was reported that no script for the show was available and that actors were asked to read scripts directly from The Last of Us Part II for auditions.

The first season became a HBO hit at the start of the year and garnered 25 Emmy nominations including outstanding drama series and acting nominations for lead stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Season two will be based on The Last of Us Part II. Thankfully for fans, The Last of Us Part II will be split across more than one seasons, allowing for more screentime for actor Pascal who plays leading Joel.

As video game users know, The Last of Us Part II starts with the murder of Joel by a character named Abby, a daughter of the Firefly surgeon he killed in order to let Ellie live. Joel’s death sets Ellie up on a mission to seek revenge against Abby. While no actress has been announced, the role of Abby has already been cast.

With no concrete premiere date set yet, fans can catch the first season of The Last of Us on Max.
