Halloween Horror Nights 11: 10 Tips & Tricks For First-Timers

The spooky season of October is here, which means the biggest Halloween event in Southeast Asia is back at Universal Studios Singapore, with Halloween Horror Nights 11 returning to scare the living daylights out of you on select evenings from now to 4 November.

With five haunted houses, three scare zones and two live performances to terrify you, we’ve got some tips and tricks that can help you navigate the night of horrors!

#1. Get there early

Halloween Horror Nights 11 starts at 7:30 pm after Universal Studios Singapore closes at 6pm for the changeover. While that seems like you have an hour of free time before the park reopens, we’d highly recommend queuing early because everyone will want to get in when the gate opens, and you want to make sure you and your party are at the front, ahead of everyone else.

Plus, arriving early means you’re guaranteed at least five hours of fun as the event closes at 12:30 am on non-peak nights, and 1:30 am on peak nights.

#2. Dress comfortably

The weather in Singapore is insanely hot right now, which means that at an event like Halloween Horror Nights, where you’re walking around the theme park and going from haunted house to haunted house on foot, dressing comfortably is a must. Wear a pair of comfortable covered shoes and clothing that is suitable for Singapore’s hot weather.

In fact, we urge you to bring a spare top, in case things get too warm. Even though it is a Halloween event, costumes, full-face makeup and costume masks are not allowed at the event so dress for a comfortable time. Also, bring a portable fan with spare batteries (you will thank us for this), and pack light.

#3. Slow down at the Scare Zones

A part of the Halloween Horror Nights experience that many visitors overlook are the Scare Zones. These areas are designed to be interactive and immersive and come with their own unique themes and backstories. Slow down and take it all in at all three of them this year – you’re sure to experience something that’ll make the hair at the back of your neck stand.

#4. Go with a group of friends

Ever heard of the saying ‘safety in numbers’? Well, Halloween Horror Nights is the perfect time to put that to the test, so go in a big group for the most fun experience.

Plus, there’s a package offer when you go in groups of four. The ‘Frights for Four’ package goes for S$416 for non-peak nights, and S$456 for peak nights, and includes perks such as limited edition souvenirs and early entry, too.

With the ‘Frights for Four’ package, you get:

  • x4 Universal Studios Singapore Halloween Horror Nights Tickets
  • x4 Limited Edition Halloween Horror Nights Souvenirs
  • x4 Halloween Horror Nights set meals worth $25
  • x4 Interactive LED Wristbands
  • Entry to theme park from 4 pm
  • Admission to select rides between 5 – 5.30 pm: Enchanted Airways, TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, Revenge of the Mummy, Accelerator

Advance purchase is required, so gather your friends and combine your courage to face an unforgettable night of frights together!

#5. Watch the live shows

In addition to the haunted houses and scare zones, there are frightful live shows for you to catch at Halloween Horror Nights too!  This year, Halloween Horror Nights has two live performances – Judgement Day and The Hacker: Game Over.

The shows are located at Lagoon Stage and New York. Check out the showtime board in New York near the Scaremony stage for the various timings. Get there early to snag a good spot, or hang back and enjoy the show.

#6. Grab the merch

Halloween Horror Nights happens once a year, so if you’re a collector of souvenirs and special items, then be sure to grab some merch for yourself. Some merch you can look forward to includes official The Weeknd Dawn FM garb, and The Weeknd red blazer set. There is also original merchandise in the form of tote bags, caps, lanyards, towels and badges.

Pro Tip: Purchase the merch at the start of the night and grab it on your way out of the park as these will be available in limited quantities. Plus, you won’t end up carrying so many things around the park. Remember Tip #2? Pack light!

#7. Plan ahead

While Halloween Horror Nights is running now through 4 November, not every night will be a Halloween Horror Nights event night. Additionally, there are peak and non-peak tickets, too. On peak dates, the event goes on until 1:30 am while non-peak dates end at 12:30 am.  That said, plan ahead and make sure you check out the calendar on Resorts World Sentosa’s website to see which nights are event nights!

Halloween Horror Nights is a special ticketed event, so that means day-time tickets to Universal Studios Singapore do not include admission to the event, so be sure to get the correct tickets online.

#8. Invest in a Halloween Horror Nights Express Pass

Get to the fear faster when you purchase an Express pass. There are two types of Express passes : Express and Express Plus. These are sold separately, and an admission ticket to Universal Studios Singapore Halloween Horror Nights is required.

With the Express pass, you get to skip the regular lines one time at all haunted houses whereas the Express Plus pass allows you to skip the standard lines once at all haunted houses and participating rides and attractions. The participating rides are Battlestar Galactica: HUMAN vs. CYLON, TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle, Revenge of the Mummy, Enchanted Airways and Accelerator.

For first-timers, it makes sense to spend a little bit more for an Express pass to skip the regular queues and have the opportunity to experience all the haunted houses and attractions. If you’d like an even more complete experience, go for the R.I.P Tour instead, at S$349 per person. With the R.I.P Tour package, a guide takes you past the lines at the rides and haunted houses and you receive special experiences. The tour includes:

  • Universal Studios Singapore Halloween Horror Nights Ticket
  • Die-ning in Hell multi-sensory dinner experience
  • Halloween Horror Nights Express Unlimited
  • Private Meet-and-Greet with Select Characters + 1 x 6R photo
  • R.I.P. Tour Lanyard
  • 10% Discount Voucher for Merchandise
  • Interactive LED Wristband

The R.I.P. Tour gets booked out fast so get yours early.

#9. Enjoy Halloween-themed food

You get Halloween-themed food once a year, so be sure to try out the various food and snack options when at Halloween Horror Nights. Halloween at Universal Studios Singapore means you get the scary treatment everywhere! From the Haunted Houses you enter, the decoration and scary ghosts you see, as well as the food you put in your tummy.

Take refuge from the terrifying cyber-hellscape of The Hacker zone and fuel up for your next virtual adventure at Tiger’s Byte Gamers Cafe—presented by Tiger Soju Infused Lager. Are you game enough to try the Gutsy Grape or Cheeky Plum Soju Infused Lager? Or indulge in hot bar bytes and cyber snacks. Sit back and chill to the frenetic beats of the future, but don’t get too relaxed for you might just encounter suspicious digital denizens that could lead you to your digital doom.

Alternatively, take up Halloween Horror Nights on their Die-ning in Hell experience, a multi-sensory dinner and show filled with thrilling moments, a three-course meal inspired by DIYU: Descent into Hell, and chilling performances by King Yama’s dreadful demons. Die-ning in Hell is located at Hollywood China Arcade, and can be purchased as a package with admission to Halloween Horror Nights at S$207 for non-peak nights, or S$217 for peak nights.

It can even be purchased on non-event nights at S$148.

#10. Familiarise yourself with dos and don’ts

This is a no-brainer. Halloween Horror Nights is a major event, and to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees, there are some do’s and don’ts in place. Thankfully, it is very simple that we’re sure the average person can follow: No food, drinks, bottles, laser pointers, video recording or photography of any kind are allowed in the haunted houses.

There’s also a “No Touching” rule – don’t touch the scare actors, and the scare actors won’t touch you.

BONUS: Check out how others did it!

There’s no better way to know what to expect than to check out what previous attendees have experienced. Whether that’s learning by watching other people’s vlogs or reading a review of the previous event Halloween Horror Nights 10 and special experiences like the Halloween Horror Nights 10 R.I.P. Tour.

Disclaimer: Halloween Horror Nights is a dynamic event and the tips here are subject to change but the general gist remains – go early to the park!
