Potsy Ponciroli, known for Old Henry and Still the King, has been tapped to write the screenplay, taking over from Chris Columbus, the original film’s writer. Columbus, whose screenwriting credits include Home Alone and Gremlins, remains involved as a producer alongside Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment’s Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario. Lauren Shuler Donner, wife of the late Goonies director Richard Donner, will executive produce the sequel. While the change in writer marks a shift from earlier plans, Columbus’ continued involvement signals confidence in Ponciroli’s vision for the next chapter of the beloved franchise.
