No one ever said switching from the lawless realm of the Yakuzas to an honest life as a stay-at-home husband would be easy. Fans will finally get to see their favourite Yakuza-cum-house-husband on screen as the popular gangster comedy, Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband TV Drama has finally been announced!
Written by Kousuke Ohno, the manga became wildly popular due to its subversive genre which portrays the daily shenanigans of ex-Yakuza legend, “The Immortal Tatsu”, as he navigates his way through mundane household chores as a stay-at-home husband for his career-oriented wife, Miku. There are often comedic misunderstandings due to his intimidating appearance and weird speech phrasings.
The comedic situations have also allowed for a plethora of meme-worthy content.
Viz media is publishing the manga in English and there are 5 volumes out in circulation now. The manga has also won numerous awards and even ranked in “the best manga series for male readers” category by Kono Manga ga Sugoi! in 2019.
As of December 2019, there are 1.2 million copies in print and a live-action promotional video starring famous voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Attack on Titan, One Punch Man, K) was even produced to commemorate the achievement.
Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband will star popular Japanese actor, Hiroshi Tamaki (Nodame Cantabile) as Tatsu and the show will be directed by Toichiro Ruto (Ossan’s Love). It will air every Sunday at 10.30pm JST (9.30pm SGT) on Nippon Television from 10 October 2020.
