‘Godzilla x Kong’ US$194 Million Global Haul Marks Biggest 2024 Box Office Debut

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has emerged as a titan at the global box office, amassing a staggering US$194 million in its opening weekend, scoring the biggest opening weekend of the year.

According to Variety, this impressive haul positions the movie as the third highest-grossing film of the year, trailing only behind Dune: Part Two with US$626 million and Kung Fu Panda 4 at US$347 million in total sales. Directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed the previous instalment, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire saw an unexpected team-up between Godzilla and Kong. With a production budget of US$135 million, the film’s international success is crucial.

It debuted with US$114 million from 64 international markets, including a strong US$44 million from China. In North America, it exceeded forecasts, raking in US$80 million. The film, starring Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens, promises a unique twist by uniting the iconic monsters against a common foe.
