In a true David and Goliath situation, everyone’s favourite friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is set to face his biggest foe yet, the King of Monsters. The epic showdown will unfold in the third issue of one-shot crossovers, Godzilla vs. Spider-Man, bringing together the Toho and Marvel universes once again as part of their ambitious Godzilla vs. Marvel comic series.
Hot on the heels of its two previous issues, Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four and Godzilla vs. Hulk, the latest entry also features a similar throwback story, taking place after 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, and following Peter Parker’s return from Battleworld. Struggling with the aftermath of bonding with an alien symbiote, he needs to adapt to his new powers quickly, as Godzilla soon appears on a rampage.
Speaking to IGN, Godzilla vs. Spider-Man writer Joe Kelly explained that the book was “a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters”, allowing him to give the two characters “the prestige and gravity they deserve”. The issue will be illustrated by Nick Bradshaw, whose previous works include 2024’s Star Wars: Inquisitors and 2023’s Spider-Man 2099: Dark Genesis. The comic’s cover art will be worked on by Bradshaw alongside fellow artists Lee Garbett (Uncanny Spider-Man) and Greg Land (Uncanny X-Men).
Godzilla and his various forms are no stranger to the comic book scene, harkening back to his initial appearance in 1977’s Godzilla, King of the Monsters comic series, which saw him clash with various superheroes like the Avengers. More recently, his MonsterVerse variation collided with the DC universe alongside King Kong in the Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong crossover series, alongside IDW Publishing’s Godzilla vs. America: Los Angeles standalone specials whose proceeds will be donated to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation.
Godzilla vs. Spider-Man will be released on 30 April 2025.
