‘Fatal Fury’ Series Is Back In The Fight With First New Game Since 1999

For fighting game fans, the weekend would have been one of pure excitement as EVO 2022 took place. However, it is not just the fighting game prowess that can elevate the noise. SNK has dropped a new announcement that will make Fatal Fury fans very happy, with a new game now in development while a teaser trailer was shown.

Not since 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves has there been a new entry in the franchise, so this is certainly welcomed news indeed. That said, there is still no release window or platform for this new Fatal Fury game.

For now, SNK is referring to this new project as a new Fatal Fury/Garou, but based on the ending of the teaser trailer, it can be safe to assume that this will be a follow-up to the 1999 game, with protagonist Rock Howard returning. If you have played that particular entry, then the silhouette of both Billy Kane and Kain R. Heinlein should be familiar, together with the taglines of “The City of Legend Still Breathes”, “Hungry Wolves Back on the Prowl”, and “A New Destiny Hidden In Darkness.”

Fatal Fury

Considering that it has been more than 20 years since we last saw a proper Fatal Fury title, perhaps it is not as recognisable to fighting game fans of a newer vintage. Thankfully, many of its characters have been making appearances in SNK’s King of Fighters series, so it is not exactly foreign territory.

For now, fans will have to make do with the fact that a new game is indeed in development, and more will come our way once SNK is ready.
