Google Pay celebrates Singapore’s 58th birthday by combining the two things that Singaporeans love the most– good eats and cashback! From 8 to 20 August, Google Pay will launch a mini-game, Hawker Pals, to celebrate Singaporeans’ love for food.
Starting at 8 am, the game will see users taking on the role of a hawker to keep the visiting Pals– Meow Shanwang, Orh Lua & Orh nee, Merina Baey, and a mystery customer– well-fed. Users can do so by completing daily actions such as completing a short trivia on Singapore and sending at least S$10 to a friend who is on Google Pay.
Cashbacks and exclusive merchant vouchers are up for grabs as long as users continue to complete their daily actions, serving up three well-loved local dishes to each of the Pals. Every satisfied Pal leaves a scratchcard, and receiving all four can lead to a cashback of up to $105!
Patrick Teo, the Engineering Director for Payments and Tech Site Leader of Google Singapore, shares his excitement about the company joining in on the festivities.
“Singapore is the world’s top food-searching nation. This National Day, Google Pay is joining in the festivities by celebrating a topic that locals are most excited about – our delicious cuisine! Building off our well-loved Huat Pals social game earlier this year, our new group of Hawker Pals brings along more rewards and multiple cashback to our growing community of users throughout the two-week mini game. We are excited to join Singaporeans in celebrating the nation’s 58th birthday as they continue to pay, scan and connect with Google Pay.”
Hawker Pals is not the only way Google is celebrating National Day with its Search homepage featuring a Google Doodle of Boat Quay’s skyline. Google Pay is also bringing back Hawker Scanner, employing image recognition technology for users to scan everyday items in hawker centres. Each successful scan will earn users vouchers from partners such as Sephora and TADA.
