Hot off the heels of Disney’s Jungle Cruise, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are set to share the screen once again with a movie adaptation of the ‘90s superhero comic Ball & Chain.
According to Deadline, the pair will play Edgar and Mallory Bulson, a couple on the verge of getting a divorce. Here’s the official description of the four-part comic:
Edgar and Mallory Bulson have decided to throw in the towel. That was the plan anyway, until a mysterious meteor bathed the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that gave them super-powers. Will their newfound abilities be enough to make their marriage work?
The comic was written by Scott Lobdell, with art by Ale Garza, and was published in the late 1990s. The film will see Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick) penning the script, with Kevin Misher (The Scorpion King) producing alongside Johnson, Blunt, and Dany and Hiram Garcia.
Several studios have expressed interest in the film, and it looks likely that Netflix will be its final destination.
Aside from the two aforementioned films, Johnson is also set to join the DC Extended Universe as the anti-hero Black Adam.
Johnson and Blunt’s Jungle Cruise is set to hit theatres on 30 July 2021.
