DOTA Gets A New Animation From Netflix; Yes, The Same Toxic DOTA We Love

Yes. The universe of DOTA is coming to us as an 8-episode animated series that will be released globally on the streamer’s platform on 25 March titled DOTA: Dragon’s Blood.

The animation is based on the same toxic game that we all love (and hate) from Valve, DOTA 2. A 5v5 team fight to the death Multiplayer On-line Battle Area (MOBA) where players strategize and pit their best heroes against each other. It’s one of the leading games on Steam with millions of players daily and probably one of the only game with multiple records for top esports tournament prize earnings.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is a series that will feature Davion, renowned as the Dragon Knight in the popular game. Much of Davion and the game’s lore has been filled with head-canon, we imagine this animation will lock it down once and for all. Although we’d like to admit there are more interesting heroes to pick from, it does excite us a little to see how they will explore the DOTA universe in this animated spin-off. We do spy what appears to be Mirana in the clip above as well.

The news came to us as a surprise because no forewarning about this venture was ever released and we are but one month away from the premiere. Announced this morning with one tweet, Valve has the entire community stirred.

Ashley Edward Miller (X-men: First Class, Thor and Black Sails) is the showrunner and executive producer of the show while Studio MIR will be animating.

We’re still not sure if this is truly the collaboration we’ve been waiting for, but truth be told, this surprise announcement did make us thrilled to see what Valve and Netflix have in store for us.

DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will premiere on Netflix 25 March.
