Donald Glover And Lucasfilm In Talks About Lando Calrissian’s Return In New Star Wars Series

There are still plenty of stories to explore in a galaxy far, far away, and Donald Glover is keen on telling one of them. The actor-singer-slash-rapper has shared that a Lando Calrissian Star Wars series continues to be on the cards, despite it going silent after news first broke in 2020.

Speaking to GQ, Glover confirmed that he and Lucasfilm are talking about the project, with the former expressing enthusiasm for his potential return to the character, who was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy. The star took on the mantle of the role in Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, which he describes as “dope to play” and “really fun”.

“Lando is definitely somebody I’d like to hang out with,” Glover said. “I mean we’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say, you know, without [Lucasfilm president] Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down.”

It’s unclear if the show is currently in active development, or if he has a role in it at all. Even so, he’s quick to assert that his stint as Lando was more of a passion project than anything else. “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time to be him. It just needs to be the right way to do it,” revealed the actor, before adding:

“I’m not interested in doing anything that’s just gonna be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that l enjoy. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be.”

Lucasfilm and Disney have yet to share much about the Lando Calrissian series since it was announced in 2020. At that time, the project, titled Lando, was attached to a logline that read, “The galaxy’s favourite scoundrel, Lando Calrissian, will return in Lando, a brand-new event series for Disney. Justin Simien is in the early stages of developing the project.”

With the European leg of Star Wars Celebration, the biggest announcement event for all things Star Wars, kicking off on 7 April (or 8 April, depending on time zone), the show might just make a surprise appearance. One thing’s for sure, though: updates and new announcements around Ahsoka, the live-action Disney+ series led by Rosario Dawson, will almost certainly take to the stage.
