The world of Percy Jackson is set to come alive on Disney+ with the series Percy Jackson and The Olympians.
The recently released trailer introduces 12-year-old Percy (Walker Scobell), a demigod son of Poseidon, who must embark on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt and prevent a war among the gods.
The story, based on Rick Riordan’s beloved book series, unfolds with Percy’s discovery of his half-God heritage and relocation to Camp Half-Blood, a haven and training ground for demigod children.
At Camp Half-Blood, Percy, accompanied by Grover (Aryan Simhadri), a satyr, and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), daughter of Athena, embarks on his first quest. The trailer, spanning over two minutes, vividly portrays Percy’s journey from a schoolboy evading bullies to a hero in training at the camp, under the mentorship of Chiron, a centaur.
His mother confirms the reality of Greek myths, setting the stage for Percy’s adventures, highlighted by a scene where he defends his mother from a Minotaur using his Riptide sword.
The ensemble cast includes Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullay, Timm Sharp, Dior Goodjohn, Charlie Bushnell, and Adam Copeland, with guest appearances by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Toby Stephens, Jay Duplass, and more. The trailer teases action-packed scenes of Percy, Grover, and Annabeth battling mythical creatures during their quest.
This adaptation marks a departure from the 2010s films, with Riordan closely involved as co-writer and executive producer, promising a more faithful rendition of his novels. Jon Steinberg co-writes the pilot alongside Riordan and serves as an executive producer with James Bobin, who directs the first episodes.
Percy Jackson and The Olympians is slated for release on 20 December on Disney+.
