Disney+’s ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ First Looks Tease “Joyful” Childhood Adventures

People Magazine has unveiled the first glimpses of Disney+‘s upcoming Star Wars live-action TV series, Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law (Captain Marvel). Directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Skeleton Crew is anticipated to be a thrilling addition to the Star Wars universe.

The series will follow four young characters: Wim, played by Ravi Cabot-Conyers; KB, portrayed by Kyriana Kratter; Neel, enacted by Robert Timothy Smith, who is a young Ortolan; and Fern, brought to life by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. These adventurous youths stumble upon a mysterious discovery on their home planet, propelling them on an unexpected journey across the stars.

Guided by a mysterious character named Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law), the children find themselves navigating through a strange and dangerous galaxy, trying to find their way home. Throughout their journey, they encounter various allies and adversaries. The narrative explores themes of teamwork, overcoming fears, and the youthful spirit of adventure.

In an interview with People Magazine, Jude Law expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting the series’ blend of nostalgia and originality. He highlighted the joy of working within the Star Wars framework, pointing out the references to both classic and recent iterations of the saga. Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood, is described as “someone who uses quick thinking, charm and conversation to get out of all sorts of scenarios.”

The series also introduces a significant droid character, SM-33, voiced by Nick Frost. Described as a “rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way”, SM-33 plays a crucial role in aiding the children throughout their adventure. The presence of hoverbikes and other iconic Star Wars technology adds an exciting element of childhood wonder to the story.

“They had like little bikes and they were on rails, and so they’d like slide back and forth and left and right [so] they could turn and bank. In reality, it looks completely insane and for the kids, the main direction was, ‘Stop smiling!’ because they were having so much fun,” Watts said.

Watts also assured that while Skeleton Crew is packed with Easter eggs and references for die-hard Star Wars fans, it remains accessible to newcomers. “You don’t have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show,” he shares. “You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there’s a lot for you.”

As Skeleton Crew makes its debut this fall, it promises to deliver a fresh and engaging experience that captures the essence of adventure and camaraderie found in the Star Wars saga. Fans are encouraged to mark their calendars for 3 December, when they can join this new expedition in a galaxy far, far away.
