Marvel Studios is actively revitalising its television lineup in 2024, following the successful debut of Echo. After a substantial pause due to industry strikes, the studio is now reigniting production on Daredevil: Born Again.
The series, initially scheduled for a spring release, underwent a creative overhaul, bringing in new talent including writer Dario Scardapane and directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Philip Silvera, renowned for his work as the stunt and fight coordinator on Netflix’s Daredevil series, returns to oversee stunts and direct the second unit for Daredevil: Born Again.
The Hollywood Reporter states that filming resumes earnestly on Monday, with notable changes to the original 18-episode format. The series is now likely to align with the 13-episode structure of the original Netflix Marvel shows, or potentially mirror the shorter 6-8 episode trend seen in recent Disney+ MCU series.
Born Again seeks to recapture the essence of the original Daredevil series, known for its gritty, street-level action and less reliance on CGI. Its predecessor, Echo, has already set a high bar, debuting as the top series on Disney+ and Hulu, and sparking renewed interest in Marvel’s older shows, particularly Daredevil‘s first two seasons.
Marvel Studios is reportedly exploring further developments with the character Echo, potentially in a second season or appearances in other series and films. Additionally, there’s talk of expanding stories for other street-level heroes like Daredevil, Punisher, and possibly revisiting characters like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
Key cast members Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are reprising their roles as Daredevil/Matt Murdock and Kingpin/Wilson Fisk, alongside Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. Rumours also suggest the return of Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, integral characters from the Netflix series. These additions, as reported by The Insider newsletter, aim to maintain continuity with the beloved Netflix series.
