Cruella’s Craig Gillespie In Talks To Direct ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is on a roll, and after casting Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Supergirl and announcing that Ana Nogueira (We Win) would serve as screenwriter, the film is now in talks to bring in Craig Gillespie (Cruella) as director.

Gillespie is most known for his work on Cruella and I, Tonya, both of which feature prominent female leads, and if confirmed as director for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, would mark his first entry into the new DC film universe, which has ambitious plans for its characters.

The film is set to begin shooting at the end of this year, reported Deadline, after production wraps on the James Gunn-led Superman film. Gunn also teased last year that his vision of Supergirl would be a departure from her traditional portrayals, stating that “we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

Plot and further casting details are under wraps, but more details should surface as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow approaches its filming window.
