Creator Hideo Kojima & Artist Yoji Shinkawa Not Involved In ‘Metal Gear 3: Snake Eater’ Remake

For fans of the stealth genre, the long-awaited return of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater should be great news to celebrate. After all, it is something that fans have been clamouring for after so many years, but Konami has always held firm in not exploring the possibilities. Now that has changed, with Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater remake set to arrive sometime in the future. However, there are still some doubts about the project, and a recent interview by IGN has shed some light on what fans can expect.

No Kojima or Shinkawa

One of the biggest questions about the Snake Eater remake was whether original creator Hideo Kojima and his trusted partner, Yoji Shinkawa, would be involved. Sadly, but also realistically, the answer is a no.

“They are not involved,” a Konami spokesperson explained. “However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world.” The developers leading the Snake Eater remake will be other Konami staff who has been “involved in the production of the past [games in the] Metal Gear series.” They will also be partnering up with Virtuos to collaborate on the project.

The Choice of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater

As for why this was the entry chosen to get this treatment, the Konami spokesperson elaborated that it was because the game “depicts the birth of BIG BOSS (Naked Snake), which is the starting point of the Metal Gear series. Another reason is that many fans have been requesting a remake of this game for a long time.”

The fans’ feedback will be integral, not just for the Snake Eater remake, but for future games in the series as well. Konami shared that “regarding remakes of previous games in the series other than Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, we will listen to player demand and consider accordingly.”

The name of the remake is also one that caused plenty of discussions, and the answer as to why it was chosen is because “its meaning fits the concept of the remake project.” The spokesperson further elaborated that “Delta is a character from the Greek alphabet that means ‘change’ or ‘difference’ in mathematics and variables, and also has the meaning of changing an amount without changing the structure.”
