When you are looking forward to something, there is always the chance that the end result is going to disappoint you. For many real-time strategy fans out there, the Company of Heroes series is a beloved one, and for good reason. However, the series has hit a snag of late, and the future appeared bleak. Thankfully, Relic Entertainment and Sega have announced Company Of Heroes 3 with some awesome trailers, and targeting 2022 for release.
Company Of Heroes 3 will be heading to a new theatre of war, this time in the Mediterranean during World War II. This is a place of immense variety, from windswept Italian mountain passes to harsh North African deserts and coastal vistas. On this new frontline, intelligence trumps speed.
“We’re really excited for players to experience Company of Heroes 3 right from the pre-alpha stage and to receive their valuable feedback. We’ve been co-developing the game with some of our fantastic community members for years now, and they have been instrumental in providing consistent and meaningful feedback at every step of the development process.
We are ready to expand that program in a massive way with our fans around the world via our CoH-Development program, which has been made possible by Amplitude Studios’ superb Games2Gether platform.”
Justin Dowdeswell, General Manager at Relic Entertainment
The RTS gameplay we love so much will be enhanced with authentic new features. This will likely be the deepest tactical experience in the series yet, and everything will be powered by the Essence Engine 5, which is Relic’s proprietary real-time strategy technology.
Changing The Face Of War
One of those features is the Dynamic Campaign Map in Company Of Heroes 3. Here, players will control ground, air, and naval forces as you build supply lines as you progress. Lead the Allies campaign to retake Italy and overcome Axis forces, and the long-term choices you make will not just affect your upcoming battles, but the story of the war itself.
Another feature is that of Full Tactical Pause. During single-player modes, you can utilise a new level of tactical control on the battlefield. Freeze the action, coordinate all your actions at once, and let the mayhem play out. The degree of control is something that will elevate the Company Of Heroes 3 experience.
If you want to try the game out for yourself, your opportunity is now. Head on over to the official site to join CoH-Development. This will grant you Pre-Alpha Preview access via Steam, with the current demo set to end on 2 August. You will also help play a part in shaping the final product.
Needless to say, 2022 is looking better now that we know Company Of Heroes 3 is on its way.
